On the 27th and 28th of May 2016 the 2nd #VisDom will take place at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam (Germany).
The conference is about Visualization of Data and Information. In 2015 we hosted the first #VisDom with the theme „Augmented Reality in Libraries“. This year the main topic is “Smart Libraries”, in particular regarding the concepts and examples of best practice. In an urban environment libraries have to (re)establish their importance as a local information broker, but as well as a space of innovation and modernity. Hence concepts concerning the library as a (physical) innovation space will play a role as well as sucessful digital strategies. On the second day we will organize workshops, where a platform for librarians and library and information scientists will be offered to exchange ideas concerning the „Library of the Future“ and share their experiences.
Confirmed plenary speakers include: Kate Pitman (Idea Store Development Manager, London), Sidsel Bech-Petersen (Dokk1 Urban Media Space, Aarhus) and Chris Wiersma (denieuwebibliotheek, Almere).
For the complete program see.
We offer talks and workshops with the folowwing topics of interest:
– Scope 1: Digital Services of Smart Libraries
Which technologies and technology hypes are relevant for libraries (Augmented Reality, 3D-print, RFID/NFC, Internet of Things…)? How could the library connect and present their haptical and digital media (Visualization, Blended Library, Semantic Search…)?
– Scope 2: The Library as a Third Place
How did the institution and the physical space of a library change? Which role does a library play in a modern urban environment? With which future tasks does libraries have to deal with and which services will they offer?
– Scope 3: Librarians in Flux
How will the job profile of a librarian change in the future? Which qualifications will become more important?
